This week, Miley Cyrus shocked several internet users when she revealed she mostly works out in heels — the reason being that she prefers to train exactly how she’d perform.
Miley candidly explained during a new interview, “My lifestyle is extremely clean. Sobriety is a big part of it. My mantra is, like any athlete, ‘Practice how you perform.’ So that’s why I practice in my heels.”
“The gym looks really tough, but then I’ve got my ivory Gucci slingbacks because they remind me of Marilyn Monroe,” she went on.
“I train in heels, mostly. I’m interested in feminizing the workout space, because so much of the workout equipment is ugly,” she added.
Now, to the average person, training in heels sounds almost impossible. But given Miley’s history of intense training methods, it perhaps isn’t as bizarre as it seems.
Back in 2021, for example, Miley posted an incredible video of herself running on a treadmill while belting out the song “Rebel Girl” by Bikini Kill — something that took the internet by storm at the time.
And beyond Miley, many celebrities have given fans a glimpse at their intense training routines over the years.
1. Shortly after Miley’s treadmill video shook the internet, for example, Lizzo shared a post of herself doing the exact same thing. “I saw @mileycyrus running and singing on a treadmill so I ran and sang on a treadmill. It was fetch. And FUCKING HARD,” she wrote on Instagram.
2. Meanwhile, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who calls herself the “Hot Girl Coach,” often seems as though she’s training for the apocalypse with her super intense workouts.
From sprinting up sand hills, to 40-minute StairMaster sessions, to pilates classes, to so much more, Megan’s workouts have left TikTok users gagged time and again.
3. Beyoncé is another artist who has long practiced intense training methods.
Way back in 2011, Beyoncé revealed that her father and former manager used to have her “run a mile” while singing in order to ensure she’d be able to perform without getting “exhausted.”
“My father, who was also my manager, made me run a mile while singing so I would be able to perform on stage without becoming exhausted,” she said.
And this training method is something that Beyoncé’s personal trainer went on to adopt over the years.
“It was a long time ago, but I had her run through her album [...] in the Georgia heat,” her trainer told Insider in 2017. “That'll do it because then you can sing and dance if you were running and [you] could make it sound good.”
4. Similarly, Taylor Swift recently revealed that she sang her entire Eras Tour setlist while running on the treadmill for months before embarking on the tour in order to build up her stamina.
“Every day I would run on the treadmill, singing the entire set list out loud,” she told Time last year. “Fast for fast songs, and a jog or a fast walk for slow songs.”
“Then I had three months of dance training, because I wanted to get it in my bones,” she said. “I wanted to be so over-rehearsed that I could be silly with the fans, and not lose my train of thought.”
